Hello Readers,
I am back with a step by step guide for creating a themed doodle page for your bullet journal, my theme is : October a.k.a spooky season!
This is one of my favourite months but I have plans for two more doodle logs as well.
The upcoming doodle logs I will be creating:
November: Autumnal/Winter Theme
December: Christmas/Snow Theme
Step One: Choose your Theme
This is always the hardest part!
For me, I love the autumn/winter changes from October through to December and though why not create a themed doodle page for that! I previously used my favourite characters from Animal Crossing and my friends & family's favourite Pokémon for inspiration (Head to my journal instagram page to see those).
It is a personal choice as the doodle pages are yours. You can also choose to NOT pick a theme at all. Sometimes it is fun to just go "I am going to spend the next 15 minutes doodling whatever comes into my head" and see what happens.
It is a process that I have never used, I prefer themes but as always, your journal is your creative space so choose what best suits you.
Step Two: Search for inspiration
If you are stuck for inspiration for themes and ideas of what on earth to doodle then Instagram, Tumblr, Google, Pinterest are all perfect places to start.
For my October doodles, I used Google to see what other people had already done and adapted mine from there.
I decided to limit myself to 10 doodles per month, as I am extremely busy but I wanted to make sure I spent some specific time just doodling!
This has worked for me so far, but again you can go crazy and there is no need to put a limit on how many doodles you do!
October, November and December Doodle Log Set Up for Inspiration

Above is a picture of how I have created a one page spread to include three months worth of doodles. This is working for me so far, next year I may do something slightly different, you will have to wait until January for that!
Step Three: Doodle away!
The fun step: doodling! Dedicate as much time as you need to do your doodles. This could be as simple as when you have a cup of tea or coffee break in the middle of your day, doodle in your journal. However if you are like me and you prefer to go "This is my dedicated journal time" you can do that too.
Bullet journals and any type of journalling should be your space to express your creativity and be a fun experience. It shouldn't be stressful, but sometimes finding the time to journal can be a case of "well this is more important so I have to do that first.
For me, I find the time I spend doing my bullet journal very relaxing and that is why I use it as one of my self-care methods for my mental health. Again with the work-life balance it can get tricky, but I know for me that bullet journalling is a non-negotiable. When I don't journal, even for one day I can feel the difference in how I feel. I guess that is what I get for maintaining this habit on and off for 7 years!
Anyway, I hope this simple three step guide offers you some ideas if you ever want to create your own doodle log!
See you next week for an October Update blog, where I will be showing my Sleep, Mood, Gaming and Self-Care trackers for October so far.
Thank you for reading my little blog,
