Why use a self-care tracker?

Timelady Sophz

Hi everyone,

I am back after a break from blogging.

This was due to watching a powerful play about Grenfell and deciding instead to use my platform to share the Grenfell Enquirer blog.

Click the link below to read that:

So this week's blog is all about self-care.

The first point I will make is that self-care is never selfish, whatever people may say to you or what you may read.

You are the one thing in life you can control, to use my lifetime mantra from Hamilton!

And no matter how hard you find your day, taking some time out of work, school, social media to do something just for you is incredibly rewarding.

Now as always, this is my personal opinion on self-care. I have found these particular techniques to be useful for me and that may not be the same case for you.

But that is why I created this blog back in January, to give you ideas and tips for your own bullet journals.

So I hadn't been tracking the self-care I do until a lovely Instagram comment made me think "well that's a genius idea" and now here we are!

I have said previously how I love mandalas so I thought about combining the stencils to make a self-care tracker.

I started from July and have created trackers through to December ready to be used.

I focused on tracking my three core self-care tasks that I try to do all or at least one of these every day :

  • Bullet journalling

  • Video gaming

  • Reading

I have had a rocky pick up/put down journey with my bullet journal because life and work balance meant I didn't even have space to think about time for myself.

However as my work and life balance has stabilised-ish, I have been able to carve out dedicated time to spend on my journal, on video games and reading!

Therefore this self-care tracker was created! And it is something I will continue for all of my future bullet journals.

July and August

September and October

November and December

As you can see I managed to fit 2 mandala stencils per page to make monthly self-care trackers. So each day I colour in the shape depending on whether I have spent some time doing my journal, playing a video game or reading.

I don't limit myself to only these self care tasks, but these are the three I have specifically chosen as non-negotiable for my mental health. I have many other hobbies and interests that aren't covered in this tracker.

I used washi tape to decorate and split the page into the two separate months trackers. Also I forgot how much I enjoyed using wash tape in my journal. So I have begun thinking about how I can enhance a future spread or a tracker using wash tape.

I chose three colours to represent the core self-care tasks I wanted to track.

I chose 3 because it is my favourite number and a manageable number for me. It's your choice if you want to track one thing or more.

I hope this gave you an idea of how you could create and use a self-care tracker.

Next week I will be documenting my Pokémon doodle pages and why I decided to go back to drawing.

Thanks for reading,
